Avery Community Foundation announces nearly $10,000 in grants
The Avery Community Foundation, a North Carolina Community Foundation affiliate, has announced $9,970 in grants to nine organizations supporting the local community.
The board of advisors awarded $4,430 from its community grantmaking fund to six organizations:
- $500 to Avery Association for Exceptional Citizens (doing business as Yellow Mountain Enterprises) for The Pan Exchange
- $1,000 to Feeding Avery Families for general operating support
- $810 to High Country Community Health for School-Based Behavioral Health in Avery County
- $810 to Mountain Alliance for Avery Teen leadership development and after-school support program
- $500 to North Carolina Symphony for Music Discovery for Avery County Preschoolers
- $810 to The Salvation Army of Hickory for Crisis Help Assistance
The board also awarded $5,540 from the Dewey Wells Citizenship Fund:
- $1,846 to Scouting America Troop 807
- $1,847 to Scouting America Cub Scout Pack 807
- $1,847 to Scouting America Troop 4807
“Supporting local nonprofits and community organizations helps strengthen our community,” said Adam Martin, advisory board president of the Avery Community Foundation. “We turn the generosity of our donors, into lasting community support, so resources are there year after year, and this year, we’re pleased to support these organizations and the important work they do in Avery County.”

Founded in 1997, Avery Community Foundation is led by a local volunteer advisory board that understands community needs.
