$16,000 in competitive grants awarded

These organizations and the work accomplished on their grant projects will be a highlight of the community foundation’s annual Philanthropy Day Luncheon on November 17. The organizations, award amounts and projects are:

•          AIDS Leadership Foothills-area Alliance (ALFA), $1,000 for HIV Education and Medical Case Management

•          ASU on behalf of Appalachian Senior Companion Program, $1,000 for the Senior Companion Program

•          Barium Springs Home For Children, $1,000 for High Country First In Families

•          Blowing Rock Community Arts Center Foundation, $1,000 for Plastic Musik

•          Blue Ridge Women In Agriculture, $1,500 for The 2011 High Country Farm Tour: Strengthening our Local Food System, Building a Healthy Community

•          Carolina Cross Connection, $500 for Repairs & Reassurance for Residents in Need

•          Childrens Council of Watauga County, $1,000 for the Raising A Reader Program

•          Hospitality House of the Boone Area, $2,000 for Disaster Relief Cots

•          Middle Fork Greenway Association, $2,000 for Phase 2: Underpass through a Highway Culvert

•          Mountain Alliance Inc, $900 for The Rolling Academy

•          National Society To Prevent Blindness, $1,060 for Vision Screening and Eye Care Program

•          The Children’s Playhouse, $500 for Agency Scholarship Memberships

•          TRIO at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute, $960 for Working in Watauga with TRIO’s Dreams

•          W.A.M.Y. Community Action, $1,200 for the Financial Education/Credit Rebuilding Program

•          Watauga County American Red Cross, $1,000 for Technology Upgrade

This marks the 16th year of grant making for the Watauga County Community Foundation (WCCF). WCCF holds endowments for 26 designated organizations and individuals with total assets of more than $2.4 million. These funds have provided more than $700,000 in grants and scholarships to local nonprofit organizations and deserving students since they were established.
