Ashe County Community Foundation awards local grants

The board of advisors of the Ashe County Community Foundation recently announced local awards from their community grantmaking fund, the Daniel Lee “Dan” Eldreth Memorial Endowment and other locally-held funds.

This year the board granted $4,910 in local awards from both the Daniel Lee “Dan” Eldreth Memorial Endowment and the community grantmaking fund, including:

  • $1,000 to Appalachian State University for Appalachian Senior Programs
  • $750 to the Ashe County Arts Council for the Literary Festival with the Poet Laureate of the United States
  • $1,000 to the Ashe County Partnership for Children for the Planting the Seeds to Read program
  • $500 to Communities In Schools of Northwest North Carolina for the Essential 55 program
  • $500 to the Hospital Hospitality House of Winston Salem (SECU Family House) for the Family House Family Financial Assistance Fund (FAF)
  • $620 to Prevent Blindness North Carolina for the Star Pupils Ashe County program
  • $540 to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC for partner agency capacity building for Ashe Outreach Ministry

Christina Wagoner, board president, thanked the community for its support of the Ashe County Community Foundation. “We are proud to support these nonprofit programs that are so important to our community,” she said. “We are grateful to the many generous individuals and organizations that have supported the Ashe County Community Fund and our work to inspire philanthropy across our community.”
