Beaufort affiliate adds Hyde to regional coverage

The board of advisors of the Beaufort County Community Foundation is proud to announce that the organization will partner with Hyde County to expand its support of the region. The expanded community foundation is called the Beaufort-Hyde Community Foundation and remains an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF).

The expansion will benefit both counties, according to Will Mayo Jr., chair of the advisory board. “We remain a local source for creating legacy endowments to ensure local funds stay local,” he said. The expanded territory also means that more resources may be developed for the community grantmaking fund, which supports nonprofit programs and essential services throughout the region. Hyde County’s nonprofits can only benefit from the inclusion, he said.

Chris Kiricoples, the board’s vice chair, said combining the two makes for a stronger organization. “It’s a natural connection in a region with low population,” he said. “This opens up a lot of opportunities for Hyde in particular.” He also serves as chief executive officer of the Beaufort County Developmental Center.

The Beaufort affiliate, established in 2001, has assets of about $1 million and has awarded $191,135 in grants since its inception.

The expansion was approved by NCCF’s statewide board in December. For more information, contact Peggy Birkemeier, NCCF’s regional associate for the northeast, at 252-491-8166 or
