Currituck-Dare Community Foundation awards local grants (July 2012)
The board of advisors of the Currituck-Dare Community Foundation announces 2012 awards from its Community Fund and from the Woman’s Fund, according to Sheila Tyler, board president.
This year’s nonprofit recipients include:

Children At Play Museum, a grant of $500 to support traveling exhibits to child centers.

Currituck Free Dental Clinic, a grant of $500 to help with startup costs for this new community-based free dental clinic, pending approval of 501 c 3 nonprofit designation.

Food Bank of the Albemarle received the requested amount of $1,000 to support local food sourcing efforts that will reduce transportation costs and help local pantries.

Interfaith Community Outreach was awarded a grant of $400 to address equipment needs in the Currituck area.

Mane & Taill Therapeutic Horsemanship Academy was awarded a grant of $840 to acquire a round training pen to use with children in the program.

The Outer Banks Center for Dolphin Research was awarded a small grant of $100 to develop educational displays for community programs.
The Currituck-Dare Woman’s Fund awarded a grant of $1,500 to Albemarle Hopeline to support program services that benefit victims of domestic violence, focused on needs in Currituck County.
Tyler highlighted the awards and distributions to three nonprofits that participated as charitable partners in the Duck and Wine Festival. Children At Play, Currituck Kids and Kids First are each receiving a grant distribution of $1,400. The Duck and Wine Festival, now completing four years, provided nearly $15,000 for charitable purposes, including additional gifts to the Community Fund. Tyler thanked the community for support of the Currituck-Dare Community Foundation. “These grants are important to our community and our quality of life,” she said. “Critical programs would not be possible without the generosity of many individuals and organizations that have supported Currituck-Dare Community Fund.”
The Currituck-Dare Community Foundation is an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation. Tax-deductible contributions can be made to the Currituck-Dare Community Fund, or to any named fund administered by the NCCF. Contributions should be made payable to the name of the fund and mailed to the North Carolina Community Foundation, Northeast Region Office, The Harbinger Center, Suite 4, Harbinger, NC 27964.
