Duck and Wine 2012 – Acknowledgments and appreciations

The tables are put away, the chefs have returned to their demanding schedules, the participants have gone home, and on behalf of the Currituck-Dare Community Foundation, we are all grateful to have beena part of this wonderful event this past April 28, 2012.

Is this not a great looking and talented group of chefs?!  WOW, each year they come up with more interesting dishes and we all enjoyed the opportunity to taste them and sample a selected wine. Metropolis walked away with First Place honors for Best Dish and People’s Choice Awards.

We want to THANK the many individuals and businesses who donated time, great talents, and financial help. But top of the list is Coastal Provisions Market and Coastal Cantina, and owners/chefs-Scott Foster and Dan Lewis. We also owe a huge THANKs to Maple Leaf Farms for their incredible donation of the duck and for attending this year to serve up one of their special appetizers.

Over $14,500 was raised in total for charitable purposes! We made two charitable awards on behalf of Metropolis to Make a Wish Foundation and to First Candle Illuminating Hope. The Currituck-Dare Community Fund will grow its grantmaking capacity by nearly $9,400; and each of our charitable partners;Currituck Kids, Children At Play Museum, and Kids First, Inc. will receive $1,500. Each charity also had the opportunity to showcase their services, accept donations and to sell items to support their organizations. Best of all, were the connections many made to participants, the restaurants and the good time everyone had.

Our website duckandwine.com has lots of photos and links to all the restaurants and participants. Thank you again to everyone who helpedwith this successful event. See you all next April!
