Duplin Foundation for Youth Advancement accepting grant applications

The Duplin Foundation for Youth Advancement is pleased to offer grants from its endowment fund for 2011.

“The 2011 Sheriff’s Ball was a great success, and we were able to use the proceeds to fully fund the endowment and offer grants to local nonprofits that serve our youth,” said Ed Emory, Duplin Foundation for Youth Advancement board member. “There are so many needs in Duplin County, and the committee felt it was extremely important to put our donors’ dollars to work in the community as soon as possible."

Emory said the evaluation process will be the same as the one employed by the Duplin County Community Foundation. “This process allows us to objectively evaluate all the proposals based on the grant criteria,” he said.

Grants are available to local organizations with programs focusing on youth in Duplin County.  Grants are not available for individuals, capital campaigns or capital improvements. Priority is given to proposals that incorporate a holistic approach and include one or more of the following areas:

  • Motivate young people to stay and succeed in school
  • Foster positive youth-adult engagement through mentoring
  • Strengthen gang awareness and prevention efforts
  • Promote participation in philanthropy
  • Provide leadership opportunities and employment skills training
  • Increase the likelihood of a successful transition to adulthood
  • Develop financial literacy
  • Encourage engagement in community service
  • Promote mental and physical health and well-being

The detailed criteria and instruction sheet is available for download here, and the application is available here.  Please read the instruction sheet carefully before completing the application.  The deadline is Friday, July 29.  Please contact the NCCF Southeast Regional Associate, Patricia Lawler, at 910-509-7256 if you have any questions.
