The Community Table, a nonprofit organization serving people in Jackson County, has established an endowment at the North Carolina Community Foundation that will provide ongoing support.

Named for long-time donors of the organization, the Harris Endowment for the Community Table signals the organization’s long-term commitment to the community and will help to address their goals and vision for the future.

The Community Table is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide nutritious meals, in a welcoming environment, to neighbors in need. Since 1999, their vision has been that no one in Jackson County, NC, goes to bed hungry. Meals are served on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone is welcome and there is never a fee for nutritious home-cooked meals. In addition, their food pantry is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11 am to 5:30 pm.

“Through our partnerships and the ongoing support of our community, we are a powerful resource for those in need,” said Paige Christie, executive director of The Community Table. “This endowment at the North Carolina Community Foundation offers an important way to support our work for the long-term.”

“We’re proud to begin partnering with The Community Table in this new way through their agency endowment fund,” said Mary Malaythong, NCCF’s Director of Donor Engagement. “They are a longtime grantee of our affiliate foundation and several funds serving Jackson County, and we know their work in the county is invaluable.”

Agency endowment funds are established by a nonprofit organization to provide a reliable source of income to support its mission or operations. A charitable organization establishing an endowment, like the Harris Endowment for the Community Table, with NCCF directly benefits from inclusion in a large portfolio, with access to experienced investment managers and other endowment services. There are 270 agency endowments at NCCF.
