German exchange students visiting Martin County take trip to Outer Banks
German exchange students from Martin County visited the Outer Banks and met up with Peggy Birkemeier, our retired NE regional associate extraordinaire at Jockey’s Ridge. The students are part of an exchange program supported by the Martin County Public Schools Student Exchange Endowment.
Peggy reports that rainy weather held off long enough for the students to climb the ridge. The kids are all from a rural farming community in Germany.
The exchange program was set up in 1978. The endowment was established to support Martin County students’ participation in the annual exchange.
