Granville County Community Foundation hosts Fall Wine Tasting

The Board of Directors of the Granville County Community Foundation hosted a Fall Wine Tasting on Friday, November 21, at Stovall’s Gifts in Oxford. Proceeds from the event went to the Granville County Community Foundation’s unrestricted endowment fund, which supports local nonprofit organizations by awarding annual grants.

The Granville County Community Foundation (GCCF) has been working hard since 1997 to meet local needs and leverage opportunities, create and grow endowment funds that leave lasting legacies in our county, and conduct grantmaking to build a stronger Granville County.

GCCF is able to do this through wonderful contributions from neighbors across the county. By donating to the unrestricted community fund or to another existing endowment fund in the Foundation’s Family of Funds, donors have helped GCCF reach nearly $700,000 in charitable assets for Granville County. The unrestricted community fund that GCCF grants from each year and the other endowment funds that they help administer every year have generated over $140,000 in grants since 1997.

This year alone, the Foundation gave out $19,000 in grants to some hard-working local nonprofits:Area Congregations in Ministry, Autism Society of NC, Inc., Granville County Extension Volunteer Association, Granville County Historical Society Museum, Henderson Community Concert Association; Remnant Community Development Corporation; St Cyprian's Episcopal Church; The Humane Society of Granville County; Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Outreach Ministry; Girl Scouts NC Coastal Pines, Inc.; Granville County Schools; and Prevent Blindness NC.

Some incredible scholarships have been established to help Granville County youth defray the costs of attending college. GCCF has given out over $30,000 since 2008 through the John Anthony Little Memorial Scholarship Fund, Thad Stem Scholarship Fund, and the Donald Patrick Darden Scholarship Endowment.

The event was a huge success, with food provided by Helen Mitchell, a variety of wines for tasting, and remarks by Janet Slaughter, Board President. Over 100 people came out to socialize and support the Granville County Community Foundation.
