Granville County Scholarships Available
The board of advisors of the Granville County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation, is currently accepting scholarship applications for the John Anthony Little Scholarship, the Thad Stem Scholarship, and the Donald Patrick Darden Scholarship, according to Janet Slaughter, board president.
The John Anthony Little Memorial Scholarship was established in 2010 to honor the memory of John, a Granville County native and J.F. Webb graduate who passed away in a tragic car accident in November of 2008. The $5000 scholarship provides an opportunity for a graduating Webb senior who demonstrates a sense of moral obligation to the world around them. The recipient will pursue a degree from an accredited institution (four-year, two-year, or community college or university).
The Thad Stem Scholarship is given annually to a graduating senior from a Granville County high school with an interest in the arts and who demonstrates financial need. Preference will be given to students demonstrating an interest in literary arts. Thad Stem, a former poet laureate of North Carolina, was an Oxford author and poet who was widely known for his wit and talents in a variety of literary fields.
The Donald Patrick Darden Scholarship is given to a graduating senior from a Granville County high school who is a child, grandchild, stepchild or step grandchild of a member of the North Carolina Highway Patrol and who plans to attend East Carolina University.
