Greene County Community Foundation awards nearly $18,000 in grants

The Greene County Community Foundation, a North Carolina Community Foundation affiliate, has awarded $17,780 in grants to 11 organizations supporting the local community.

The board of advisors granted:

“We’re honored to support local organizations through this work,” said Michael Rhodes, advisory board president of the Greene County Community Foundation. “This year, we were especially pleased to partner with the neighboring Lenoir County Community Foundation to focus on some key issues in our communities, including lack of affordable childcare and food insecurity.”

Advisory board members from both NCCF affiliate foundations spent time together learning about needs facing the region to inform this year’s grantmaking decisions. The Greene and Lenoir community foundations matched each other’s support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain by awarding $3,000 to the organization. Foundations also chose to focus $2,000 each on addressing food insecurity.

Funds for 2026 grants came from GCCF’s community grantmaking fund, which includes a generous contribution from the Frank and Lou Shackelford Family Foundation, and the Clarence H. and Florence C. Moye Memorial Endowment. Each year, GCCF’s advisory board uses dollars from its endowment funds to make grants to eligible local organizations, including nonprofits, local governments, schools and churches.
