Jones County Community Foundation board member receives 2025 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award

TRENTON – Charley Jones, advisory board member of the Jones County Community Foundation, was presented the 2025 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award at the May 5 Jones County Commission meeting.

Jones was recognized for his commitment to Jones County, his service on the board of the Jones County Community Foundation, including as its grants chair and past president, and his service as the president of the Jones County Historical Society.

As grants chair of the Jones County Community Foundation Jones was responsible for leading the process of selecting eligible local organizations for grants from the foundation. Each year, JCCF’s local volunteer advisory board uses dollars from its endowment fund to make grants to eligible local organizations, including nonprofits, local governments, schools and churches. As the president of the Jones County Historical Society, Jones led several efforts to teach the history of the county, including at each of the county’s elementary schools. Jones taught fourth grade students about the county’s namesake, Willie Jones, the forming of the county and the story of the first European settlers in the county.

The North Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals and groups that make a significant contribution to their community through volunteer service. Individuals or groups from the public, nonprofit, and private sector are nominated for the award by community members and selected by the NC Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service.
