Making plans to plan…

In this day and time, when many of us rely on alarms on our phones to give us a reminder of where we need to be next, asking nonprofit professionals to take two hours out of their jam-packed schedules to talk about planning is a risk.

Happily, it was a risk that paid off last Thursday in Rocky Mount. The Futrell-Mauldin Community Foundation for Greater Rocky Mount, in partnership with the United Way Tar River Region, hosted a workshop on “Painless Planning,” presented by Heather Yandow of Third Space Studios. This session was a follow-up to the successful “Leading for Tomorrow Nonprofit Capacity Building Summit” held by the group in May.

Imagine our thrill as we looked out to see 35 nonprofit leaders waiting at the doors of the library! It is obvious that our community is hungry for these professional development opportunities. The best part is that they left with real tools that they can use with their boards to work on things like strategic planning and succession planning.

Sometimes, we become so wrapped up in the day-to-day functions of our jobs. It is so important to set aside time to really map out the work in relation to the mission. We look forward to more opportunities to enrich the nonprofit community in our region. We are planning the next session already!
