MCCF makes 1st contribution from community grantmaking fund

The board of advisors of the Martin County Community Foundation made its first grant from its unrestricted fund in June.

The grant was made to Unlimited Care for its Youth Summer Tutorial Program. This program will provide summer activities for children to learn leadership skills and enhance decision-making. They will focus on a variety of activities, including 1) Sports - baseball , basketball;  2) Performing Arts - singing, dancing and drama; 3) Creative Arts - painting, drawing and  crafts; 4) Academic Enrichment - literacy and math;  5) Outdoor Activities - bird watching/identification; gardening, walking and exercise; 6)Technology - basic computer skills and surfing the web.  About 75 youth will be served in Martin County through this grant.

The Martin affiliate's community grantmaking fund reached the level needed to begin local grantmaking through last year's Chairman's Challenge, a campaign designed to build local endowments. The Chairman's Challenge will take place again in November of 2014.
