Moore Women – A Giving Circle conducts site visit with Moore Buddies Mentoring

Members of Moore Women – A Giving Circle recently conducted a site visit with Moore Buddies Mentoring, one of the giving circle’s 2017 local nonprofit grantees.

Joyce Clevenger, executive director, spoke with the members about the mentoring programs that serve 7-17 year old students. Two volunteers also shared with the members about their experience mentoring the students and the positive outcomes they have witnessed.

Through the program, school and community volunteers meet with their mentees to encourage, offer advice, listen and provide positive, interactive experiences in the community at large. Through The My Path (Postive Choices, Academic Improvement, Taking Charge of My Future and High Values) program, trained mentors work with a small group of teens after school to teach conflict resolution, offer career opportunities through job shadowing and expose teens to academic options. Additionally, Reading Buddies meet and read with Moore County students to help develop literacy skills.

More volunteers are always needed to assist in these vital programs. For more information, contact Joyce Clevenger at joyce@moorebuddiesmentoring.com or 910-295-1072.
