The Board of Directors of the North Carolina Community Foundation has elected as chair Steve W. Wangerin. Wangerin succeeds Rodney Earl Martin who had served as chair since 2019.

A member of the state board since 2015, Wangerin served as Vice Chair, Audit Committee Chair, a member of the Finance & Investment and strategic planning committee. He was a founding member of the Onslow Caring Community Foundation, a local affiliate of NCCF.

“Steve brings a wealth of experience at the local and state level and has a deep understanding and respect for our history and the communities we serve. In his role as Chair, he will provide the leadership we need to move into our next phase of growth” according to Jennifer Tolle Whiteside, CEO.

Wangerin is the executive vice president and chief credit officer for Coastal Bank & Trust in Jacksonville. He has a long history of involvement with the organization beginning in 2000  when NCCF founder Mr. Lewis Holding reached out to recruit him to lead local efforts.

“I am honored to be elected as the 9th chair of the North Carolina Community Foundation Board,” said Wangerin “The work I have been engaged in as a member of the NCCF Board and local affiliate provides the foundation for my role as the next chair. I will continue to pursue the mission to grow and inspire enduring philanthropy across North Carolina.”

Joining Wangerin are board officers Katharine (Kack) Harrison Hardin, Vice Chair/Treasurer, and F. Timothy Nicholls, Esq, Secretary.
