NCIDR awards $225,000 in inclusive disaster recovery grant funding

The North Carolina Inclusive Disaster Recovery Network recently awarded $250,000 in grants to support inclusive long-term disaster recovery in eastern North Carolina communities impacted by Hurricane Florence.

Grants are supporting nonprofit organizations that are minority-led or focus long-term recovery efforts on serving traditionally underrepresented communities, including communities of color, those for whom English is the second language, people with physical or cognitive disabilities and communities of lower wealth.

The grants are funded by the NCCF Disaster Relief Fund and administered by the NCIDR, led by our long-standing partners at Rural Forward NC, a program of the Foundation for Health Innovation and Leadership. NCCF engaged NCIDR to conduct this program with a participating grantmaking model, meaning that grant decisions are made by members of NCIDR and others who belong to the communities that the funding will benefit.

Grants awarded were:

• $25,000 to AMEXCAN to support Florence Relief for eastern North Carolina Latinos impacted by Hurricane Florence
• $25,000 to Citizens on Southside Together for the Hurricane Florence Rehabilitation Project
• $25,000 to Columbus County Forum for recovery and resiliency in Southeastern NC in response to Hurricane Florence
• $25,000 to Disability Rights North Carolina for disaster displacement and disability – DRNC Disaster Recovery Project, for Hurricane Florence response
• $25,000 to Duplin Christian Outreach Ministries for Hurricane Florence recovery and resiliency in Duplin County
• $25,000 to Episcopal Farmworker Ministry for Mano Amiga – EFWM’s Disaster Relief Program in response to Hurricane Florence
• $25,000 to Men and Women United for Youth & Families for the Men and Women United Long-Term Recovery Program, related to Hurricane Florence
• $25,000 to Pender United, Inc. for disaster planning building resilience through digital communication in response to Hurricane Florence
• $25,000 to Wash Away Unemployment, Inc. for transitional housing for Craven County, related to Hurricane Florence
