New Hanover County Community Foundation announces first Andrew Stephen Hendrix Scholarship recipient

The North Carolina Community Foundation announces the first scholarship award from the Andrew Stephen Hendrix Memorial Scholarship Endowment, according to Leslie Ann Jackson, director of grants and scholarships.

The first winner of the scholarship award is Kyndall Emalee Turner, of New Hanover County. Turner is a graduate of Cape Fear Community College, where she earned her associate’s degree and is on track to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a degree in supply chain management. Turner was granted this scholarship because of her demonstrated leadership skills, strong work ethic, dedication and compassion for others and experience in the restaurant and service industry. “Andy was one of the sweetest souls I have known,” said Turner. “His genuine interest in everyone’s life and always making sure everyone was okay is something we all need to take the time to do in our lives.”

Karen Bessey and Dr. Robert Hendrix, the late Andrew Hendrix’s parents, created the scholarship to honor Hendrix’s commitment and service to others. The family is from Rocky Mount.
