Northern Albemarle Community Foundation and Women Givers of Northeast NC award more than $34,000 in local grants and scholarships
The Northern Albemarle Community Foundation and the Women Givers of Northeast North Carolina recently announced $34,690 in local grants and scholarships awards.
NACF grant awards were granted from the community grantmaking fund and Judge Thomas Watts Memorial Endowment.
NACF grants awarded were:
- $2,000 to the Albemarle Commission Senior Nutrition Program for Meals on Wheels-Northern Albemarle
- $1,000 to Albemarle Hopeline for general operating support
- $1,000 to Arts of the Albemarle for summer camp scholarships
- $4,000 to the Boys & Girls Club – Elizabeth City Unit for general operating support
- $1,605 to the Dream Hunt & Fishing Program for general operating support
- $1,000 to Elizabeth City First United Methodist Church, Inc. for La Casa Summer Reading Camps
- $1,000 to Kids First, Inc. for the Accredited Child Abuse Treatment and Prevention Program
- $2,000 to the Perquimans County Schools Education Foundation for Partners in Education
- $2,000 to Port Discover: North Carolina’s Center for Hands-on Science for Saturday STEAM Projects
- $595 to Prevent Blindness North Carolina for Star Pupils Gates County
- $1,000 to Special Olympics North Carolina for Special Olympics North Carolina – Camden, Gates, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties
Women Givers grants awarded were:
- $1,000 to Albemarle Hopeline for general operating support
- $1,000 to the Boys & Girls Club – Elizabeth City Unit for general operating support
- $1,000 to Elizabeth City First United Methodist Church, Inc. for the La Casa ESL (English as a Second Language) Program
- $1,000 to Kids First, Inc. for the Accredited Child Abuse Treatment and Prevention Program
- $750 to the Perquimans County Schools Education Foundation for water turtles
- $750 to the River City Community Development Corporation for family home
Scholarships awarded were:
- $1,990 to Lauren Winslow from the Elizabeth City Jaycees Scholarship
- $5,000 each to Janiyah Sutton and Jordan Port from the Bertha Sawyer & Winfred Meiggs Scholarship
James Watson, NACF board president, thanked the community for its support of the Northern Albemarle Community Foundation. “We are proud to support these nonprofit programs that are so vital to the community,” he said.
Ann Hoffman, Women Givers of Northeast NC co-chair, expressed gratitude to the local community. “We are grateful to the many generous individuals and organizations that have supported our work,” she said.
Robin Zinsmeister, Women Givers of Northeast NC co-chair, said, “We work to inspire philanthropy across our community.”
