The board of advisors of the Rockingham County Community Foundation is hosting its first 2014 RCCF Outstanding Student of the Year awards event on April 5, 2014.
The RCCF invites high school juniors from each of the Rockingham County high schools to apply for awards that will be given in their names to the Rockingham County nonprofit organization of their choice. Contributions totaling $2,500 will be awarded to four local nonprofits chosen by the winning students, one from each high school, for their outstanding community/volunteer service. The first-place award will receive a $1,000 contribution in his or her name and three $500 contributions will be awarded to three other students for their outstanding volunteerism.
The event is being sponsored by local business and organizations. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor please contact RCCF Board Member Dr. Cindy Bolton, event chair, in Reidsville at 336-349-9248; or any other RCCF board member. The levels of sponsorship are Platinum for $1,000, which includes four tickets; Gold at $500, which includes two tickets; Silver for $100; and Friend at $50. Tickets will be on sale for $10 each after the first of the year.
Proceeds from this event will go to support the Rockingham County Community Fund, which supports nonprofit organizations in Rockingham County.
“This competition will provide an opportunity for the RCCF board members to recognize and celebrate the work of our youth in Rockingham County,” said Bolton. The awards ceremony is on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Rockingham County Community College.
“We encourage all high school juniors who are involved in community service to apply through their local high school,” Bolton said. The four eligible high schools are McMichael High School, Morehead High School, Reidsville High School and Rockingham County High Schools. Each student will be asked to complete a brief application that is available at each high school guidance counseling office. The application is also available here. The application deadline is Jan. 17, 2014.
For further information, please contact Bolton at 336-349-9248 or Mary Anne Howard, North Carolina Community Foundation regional associate, at 919-256-6924.
