Scholarship for Starmount High School graduates memorializes young father, business owner
The Nathan Rose Scholarship was established at the North Carolina Community Foundation in 2025 to benefit graduates of Starmount High School.
In 2017, at age 33, Rose died in a car accident. He was survived by his wife Aime, a school social worker, and sons Jaxon and Zayne. Rose was a graduate of Starmount High School and co-owner of the family’s paving business. He also had an interest in engine mechanics.
“Nathan was the backbone of our family,” said Dale Rose, Nathan’s father and the founder of the scholarship. “He was very hands-on and very technical. He helped me grow my business, he had a good work ethic, and he was a leader.”
For these reasons, Dale Rose wanted to start a scholarship fund to honor his son’s memory and to encourage graduating seniors from Starmount High School to be leaders by pursuing further education and vocational training.
“Nathan would be proud of this scholarship,” said Aime Rose. “It is a way to continue his memory. It is how we can keep him alive in our heart and thoughts.”
The Nathan Rose Scholarship made its first award in 2026, and Dale Rose participated in the selection process. He hopes to continue expanding the fund so that it can be awarded to two students each year.
