Brandon Stiwinter

Brandon Stiwinter was an outgoing and enthusiastic athlete at Franklin High School in Macon County, N.C., where he set school records as a kicker on the football team and was an All-Conference baseball player.

Stiwinter was the son of Lavaughn and Karen Stiwinter. Karen described her son as an enthusiastic athlete who was always ready with a smile and a team player who was known for encouraging and supporting his teammates.

Stiwinter graduated from Franklin High School in 1997 and then studied at Western Carolina University. His family and friends created this scholarship in his memory after his death in a motorcycle accident in 1999.

The Brandon Stiwinter Memorial Scholarship Endowment supports Franklin High School in awarding scholarships to a graduate who has participated in any sport, demonstrated athletic excellence and worked hard to improve their natural talents. The recipient may be an average student but is committed to continuing education and is an enthusiastic team member who encourages teammates to strive for excellence.
