The Currituck-Dare Community Foundation Fab Five
In 2025 the Currituck-Dare Community Foundation, a North Carolina Community Foundation affiliate, awarded grants to five fabulous nonprofits.
Throughout the past several months, CDCF board members have toured and rolled up our sleeves, pitching in to help and support these nonprofits in their work for those that need it most in our community. We observed so many caring volunteers generously sharing their time and expertise to help those that need it most in our community. Our grants met NCCF’s mission to inspire North Carolinians to make lasting and meaningful contributions to our community.
Lower Currituck Food Pantry – Grandy
Several board members assisted in getting the pantry ready for the weekly food distribution. It was impossible to take a group picture of the volunteers because everyone there was just too busy! Folks were in charge of bread, produce, canned goods, refrigerated goods, meats, extras, and delivery to the awaiting cars. All the volunteers knew their jobs and the food pantry ran like a well-oiled machine. Caring people gathering, volunteering their time and expertise to help those that need it most in their community. Well Done! Lower Currituck Food Pantry – we are proud to support your efforts and mission.
Beach Food Pantry – Kitty Hawk
We rolled our sleeves up again to help with food distribution at this food pantry. Board members helped clients shop for groceries and load their cars. Their mission is to provide food assistance to residents and workers in Dare County facing food insecurity and they are doing a terrific job. Kudos to Elisabeth Silverthorne and her staff of volunteers. CDCF is honored to support you in your hard work!
Kids First, Inc. – Elizabeth City
This organization serves child abuse survivors in Northeastern NC. CDCF board members assisted with a fundraising event “A Night of Art & Fashion.” We helped with set up, turning the Arts of the Albemarle building into a fashion and jewelry boutique! Several of our members attended the event, and one of us even received a prize for being the first to purchase an event ticket! Shout out to Rhonda Morris for leading this wonderful organization delivering help, healing, and hope to our most vulnerable. Glad we could help!
Community Care Clinic of Dare – Nags Head
This nonprofit provides medical, dental, and pharmacy services for uninsured and underinsured people who live or work in Dare County. John Windley, CCC’s Director of Operations gave our board members a tour of the medical facility and introduced us to the pharmacist and dentist. We learned about the needs that they are working hard to meet as well as how we can help now and in the future.
Meals on Wheels
This organization serves homebound older adults in our community. Board members helped load meal delivery cars and distributed “road trip” snacks to the volunteer delivery drivers. Thank you Stacey Joseph for your great work organizing all of these volunteers and the various sites in our widespread community.
From our youngest and most vulnerable to our senior citizen community, from medical and dental needs to food insecurity for all populations in both counties served by our affiliate we met the mission of the North Carolina Community Foundation – to make lasting and meaningful contributions to our community.
We can’t wait to do it all again! Applications for grants from CDCF open on July 31, 2026.
