A graduating senior from a Johnston County public high school who plans to attend Shaw University. Preference given to students with: Value and Valor: Student has high regard for obtaining an education and the courage to pursue it in spite of limited available funds; Versatility: Student demonstrates leadership, follow-ship, friendship, involvement in extra-curricular activities (such as civic organizations, community service, sports, music), strong work ethic and academic achievement of a B average or more; Visionary: Student has a purpose and a plan for being a productive citizen and for enhancing the image and influence of African Americans; and Vivacity: Student has a genuine sprightliness, gaiety and pleasant personality that embrace and encourage students of differing backgrounds, interests, and abilities. Renewable for up to three additional years based on the student demonstrating that they remain enrolled at their educational institution.
