Criteria

Graduating high school seniors and recent high school graduates who are direct descendants of alumni, faculty, or staff of Dunn High School (including any adopted children and children who are legal wards) and have been accepted and plan to attend any college or university located in North Carolina. Additional selection criteria include academic achievement, evidence of high moral character and good citizenship, and involvement and leadership in high school activities, church and/or the community.

Alice Tart Butler Baggett

This scholarship was established in order to perpetuate the memory of Alice Tart Butler Baggett, a 1933 graduate of Dunn High School where she starred in basketball and tennis, after her death on January 5, 2007, by her children and their spouses Martha Ann Butler Goff (DHS ‘54), Cliff Butler (DHS ‘64), Linda Lynch Butler (DHS ‘63), Robie Butler (DHS ‘68), and Lynda Daniel Butler.

Baggett was the first woman to serve on the Dunn School Board, later serving as its chair. She owned and managed Butler and Carroll Drug Store and the WCKB radio station. Baggett was a life-long member of Hood Memorial Christian Church. In addition to her children, Baggett was survived by three grandchildren who graduated from Dunn High School, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who graduated from Triton High School.
