Criteria

Graduate from a public high school in Carteret County with a 3.0 or higher unweighted GPA who is a US citizen and has resided in Carteret County full-time for at least the past 12 months, who is enrolling full-time in an accredited four-year college or university seeking a bachelor’s degree in either mechanical engineering or electrical engineering, and who demonstrates involvement in extracurricular activities and exhibits good moral character. **PLEASE NOTE: Although students should use the North Carolina Community Foundation’s common application form, this scholarship requires three specific reference letters – (1) one from a math or physics teacher, (2) one from a teacher or school administrator, and (3) one from a non-family member in the community. Furthermore, the required essay should be no more than two pages and describe (1) why you have chosen a career in engineering, (2) what qualities you possess that would enable you to succeed in the engineering field, and (3) how you foresee utilizing your degree to make a difference in your selected field of interest.**
