Mekhi Bailey

Mekhi Bailey, a native of Wendell, is a recipient of the Raleigh Alumnae Delta Scholarship. Bailey attends North Carolina Central University and is studying neuroscience and kinesiology.

He chose the neuroscience and kinesiology programs at NCCU because they align with his goals – learning more about the brain and human performance. Bailey is excited to dive into research and to join campus organizations that speak to his interests and take part in experiences that push him out of his comfort zone.

“I’m passionate about how the brain and body work together, especially in high-performing people like athletes, and I want to explore that through neuroscience and kinesiology,” he said. “My goal is to help others perform at their best physically and mentally while also learning how to take better care of my own well-being along the way.”

Bailey credits his journey with football as one of the biggest motivators in his life. Growing up, he faced challenges that tested him mentally and emotionally – doubt, pressure, and moments where it felt easier to give up than to keep going. Through football, he learned discipline, focus, and how to push through when things get hard. Bailey also learned how to be accountable, not just to his team, but to himself.

By pursuing higher education, Bailey hopes to open doors not just to a career, but to a deeper understanding of himself and the world around him.

“College is more than just classes and grades to me. It’s a place where I can grow into the person I’m meant to be: curious, driven, and connected. I’m excited to meet people with different stories, challenge myself in new ways, and take steps toward a future where I can make a real impact.”
