The Swain County Community Foundation is a growing family of philanthropic funds, source of grants for local causes and partner for donors. SCCF was founded in 1993 and is led by a local volunteer advisory board that helps build community assets through the creation of permanent endowments, makes grants and leverages leadership – all for the benefit of Swain County.

Apply for grants
The Swain County Community Foundation will accept grant applications from June 21, 2024, to NOON on July 23, 2024. Applications received after this deadline will not be accepted, including late submissions due to technology issues. Funds are available for qualified charitable organizations serving the local community.
Grants typically range from $500 to $1,250. In 2023, SCCF awarded $12,220 in grants through this competitive process. Learn more about past grant recipients.
Grants will be awarded from the community grantmaking fund and the Youth are our Future Endowment.
How to apply
SCCF is an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation. Organizations must apply for grants using NCCF’s online application system.
- Read the guidelines before you apply. Failure to adhere to the guidelines will result in your application being declined.
- If this is your first time applying, follow the instructions in Training Module I to create a profile. If your organization already has an account, use your information to log in.
- Follow the instructions in Training Module II to add a grant application. Once registered, you can access more information about the application process.

- $1,680 to Bryson City Food Pantry for general operating support
- $1,400 to Bryson City United Methodist Church for Pass It on Café
- $2,060 to Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas for Swain County Childhood Cancer Safety Net
- $1,000 to Four Square Community Action, Inc. for Swain County Head Start Safety Improvement Project
- $1,200 to Hawthorn Heights WNC, Inc. for recreational activities
- $900 to HIGHTS for fuel for mediation services
- $900 to Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina for Become a Wishmaker in Swain County
- $780 to Need More Outdoors for programming
- $500 to North Carolina Symphony for music discovery for Swain County preschoolers
- $1,500 to Swain/Qualla SAFE, Inc. for general operating support
- $1,000 to The Smoky Mountain Community Theatre for renovations
In response to disruptions Hurricane Helene may have caused to their work, NCCF offered flexibility to 2024 grantees of western affiliate foundations to repurpose funding awarded for specific programs or projects to best support their current needs. - $1,250 to A.W.A.K.E., Inc. for extending care for abused children in Swain County
- $1,400 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina for reigniting the power of youth in Swain County
- $1,450 to Bryson City Food Pantry for general operating support
- $1,500 to Hawthorn Heights WNC, Inc. for recreational activities
- $500 to Hospice House Foundation of WNC, Inc. for general operating support (Swain County)
- $1,250 to Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina for Fund-A-Wish for Swain County (A Spark of Hope)
- $1,170 to Need More Outdoors for general operating support
