NC Inclusive Disaster Recovery Network Grant Program

Funded by NC Community Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund

The North Carolina Inclusive Disaster Recovery (NCIDR) network is seeking proposals from organizations conducting disaster recovery work in response to Hurricane Florence that are:

  • Minority-led, and/or
  • Specifically serving traditionally underrepresented communities, including communities of color, those within which English is the second language, people with physical or cognitive disabilities, communities of lower wealth

This program is funded by NC Community Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund, and administered, on behalf of NCIDR, by Rural Forward NC, a program of Foundation for Health and Leadership Innovation.

Grant decisions will be made on a rolling basis by members of the NC Inclusive Disaster Recovery Network until funds are fully spent.

Eligibility criteria

  • Organization is a 501c3 public charity or fiscally sponsored by a 501c3 organization.
  • Organization is providing disaster recovery/resilience services to communities impacted by Hurricane Florence. Preference may be given to organizations based in impacted communities.
  • Organization is serving traditionally underrepresented communities, aligned with the mission of NCIDR, including communities of color, those within which English is the second language, people with physical or cognitive disabilities, communities of lower wealth, and/or
  • Organization is led by an individual or individuals belonging to one of the communities described above.

Terms

  • Organizations may only submit one proposal at a time. If funding is granted, organizations may apply again once initial grant is resolved.
  • The program’s target grant amount is $25,000, and grants will not exceed this amount.
  • The grant term will be 9 months from the time of the award. The funds must be spent and proposed work completed within the approved time frame.

Restrictions

Grants are not intended for:

  • Government entities (including public schools, colleges, universities, towns and municipalities)  
    Note: Grants are also not intended for foundations of private schools, colleges and universities.
  • Activities that are limited to a specific religious group/congregation or that promote a particular faith
  • Annual fund or capital campaign fundraisers
  • Endowments
  • Political purposes or lobbying
  • Loans or reimbursements
  • Direct payment to named individuals
    A grant to an organization to provide direct financial assistance is permitted.
  • Re-granting to another nonprofit organization by the applicant organization

How to apply

All proposals must be summitted electronically using the NC Community Foundation’s online grant system. Proposals are accepted beginning January 15, 2020. Below you will find instructions for how to do so and a link to the online system. Be sure to read these instructions carefully before you begin.

  1. First, you must create an account profile if you do not already have one. For assistance with creating your account, please click here to view the training slides.
    If your organization already has an account in NCCF's online system, please do not create a new one, and use your current account information to log in
  2. Once your profile is created (or you have logged-in to an existing account), you will be directed to your dashboard. Click on the word "Apply" at the top of the page.
  3. You will arrive at a page with information about applying for a grant from NCCF. In the upper right-hand corner, you will see an "Access Code" box. In that box, type: NCIDR. (All uppercase.) Then, click on the Enter Code button.
  4. The page will refresh, and a link to the online portal, titled "NC Inclusive Disaster Recovery Grant Program," will appear. Click on the blue Apply button to access the application form, which is only available while the program is open.

We recommend reviewing the application in its entirety prior to applying in order to familiarize yourself with the information required. The application is accessible in the online system, before and during the open cycle by clicking the “Preview” button. You must complete the steps above first.
