The Wilkes Community Foundation awarded $9,850 in grants to local organizations from its community grantmaking fund:

• $1,500 to Carolina Cross Connection for Access in Wilkes 
• $750 to Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas for Wilkes County Childhood Cancer Safety Net 
• $500 to Cricket Volunteer Fire Department for Improving Medical Response Readiness for First Responders 
• $1,500 to New Damascus Baptist Church Pantry for Silver Lining Project – offering hope and assistance, positivity and help in difficult situations 
• $500 to Safe Spot Child Advocacy Center of Wilkes for general operating support 
• $1,000 to Wilkes Circles of Care for Care Circle Leader Program, awarded in honor of the Kyle Hayes Memorial Endowment 
• $1,000 to Wilkes Community Partnership for Children for Wilkes County Diaper Pantry 
• $500 to Wilkes Developmental Day School for general operating support 
• $850 to Wilkes Literacy for Adult Literacy Learning Curriculum 
• $500 to Wilkes Recovery Revolution, Inc., for Supporting Recovery at the Roots

2026 Grants Awarded

In February 2026, NCCF awarded a total of $9 million in grants from the Disaster Relief Fund to 108 charitable organizations focused on long-term recovery from Hurricane Helene. Review the full list of grants, including those serving Wilkes County.

2025 Grants Awarded

In conjunction with the Wilkes Community Foundation, NCCF awarded $180,000 in grants from our Disaster Relief Fund to the following local organizations to support long-term recovery, resiliency and unmet needs related to Hurricane Helene.

• $30,000 to Blue Ridge Opportunity Commission (BROC)
• $30,000 to H.O.P.E. Ministries (Brushy Mountain Baptist Association)
• $30,000 to Samaritan’s Kitchen
• $30,000 to Wilkes Community Partnership for Children
• $30,000 to Wilkes Recovery Revolution
• $30,000 to Wilkes Youth Life Development (WYLD)

If an organization is unable to receive a grant, the affiliate will choose another charitable or government organization to receive the award.

2024 Grants Awarded

The Wilkes Community Foundation awarded $9,740 in grants to local organizations from its community grantmaking fund:

• $1,390 to Appalachian State University for senior programs
• $1,000 to Carolina Cross Section for access in Wilkes County
• $2,000 to Unified City Church for Justice Project – Feed the Kids given in honor of the Kyle Hayes Memorial Endowment
• $2,000 to Wilkes Circle of Care for Circle Leader Program
• $2,000 to Wilkes Community Partnership for Children for Wilkes County diaper pantry
• $500 to Wilkes County Public Library for children’s programming at Wilkes County Public Library and Traphill Branch Library
• $850 to Wilkes Literacy for ESL group curriculum

In response to disruptions Hurricane Helene may have caused to their work, NCCF offered flexibility to 2024 grantees of western affiliate foundations to repurpose funding awarded for specific programs or projects to best support their current needs. • $2,350 to CAPT (Child Abuse Prevention Team)/Our House for general operating support, in honor of the Kyle Hayes Memorial Endowment 
• $2,500 to Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas for Wilkes County Childhood Safety Net 
• $500 to Children’s Center of Surry, Inc. for Wilkes County Real World 
• $1,000 to Legal Aid of NC, Inc. (executive director) for reaching low-income county residents with civil legal issues that impact safety, housing and other basic needs 
• $2,000 to Wilkes Community Partnership for Children for supporting the safety of playgrounds in licensed childcare centers 
• $1,000 to Wilkes Literacy for Math for Life: Building Everyday Math Skills for Adults 
• $500 to Wilkes Youth Life Development for general operating support
