About CCF’s grantmaking

Founded in 2005, the Carteret Community Foundation is led by a local volunteer advisory board. Each year, CCF uses dollars from its endowment funds to make grants to nonprofits that help the local community.

Grants will be awarded from the following funds. All applications will be considered for funding from the Carteret Unrestricted Endowment and charitable organizations may also select funding from additional funds for which they meet the criteria.

  • Carteret County Unrestricted Endowment, enabling the Carteret Community Foundation to respond to changing community needs and to enhance the quality of community life within the county through annual grants to local nonprofit organizations.
  • J. O. and Ruth Barbour Memorial Fund for Elementary Education in Carteret County, supporting the reinforcement of Carteret County elementary school instruction in the basics, including reading, writing, arithmetic and penmanship; the acquisition of classroom equipment; compensation of elementary school teachers; and capital improvements to elementary school facilities. Eligible applicants are Carteret County Schools.
  • J. O. and Ruth Barbour Memorial Fund for Wildlife Habitat Conservation supporting conservation projects in Carteret County that contribute to the preservation, maintenance, or reestablishment of woodland and other natural areas that provide suitable and desirable habitats for wildlife, with particular emphasis on birdlife.
  • Pearl's Pantry Fund, supporting humanitarian needs of residents of Carteret County. Proposals for food, prescription medicines, clothing, housing, families in crisis or disaster relief will be reviewed in that order.

In 2022 CCF awarded more than $80,000 in grants. Learn more about past grant recipients.
