Season of giving

The end of the year is busy for all of us. Year-end projects, goal setting for the new year and sharing the holiday season with family and friends, make our time precious.

While we’re all busy and enjoying the season, it’s also an opportunity to reflect on what is important and consider charitable contributions to the nonprofit organizations and causes that make the world a better place.

At the North Carolina Community Foundation, we’re poised to assist with your year-end giving and granting. Please find important information, instructions and deadlines below:

Year-end giving

To provide you with the best possible service and ensure your charitable gifts qualify for tax deductions this year, please keep this important information in mind:

Gift type What to do Deadline
  • Mail a check to the “North Carolina Community Foundation,” noting the intended fund.
  • Mail to North Carolina Community Foundation, 3737 Glenwood Ave., Suite 460, Raleigh, NC 27612.
  • Using USPS? It must be postmarked by Dec. 31.
  • Using a carrier such as FedEx, UPS or DHL? It must be physically received at the NCCF office by Dec. 31.
Credit card
  • Use the donation page of our website.
  • Click "Give to a Specific Fund" to locate the fund for your contribution and then select "Give to this fund" when you've found the fund you intend to support.
  • Submit by Dec. 31.
Wire transfer
  • Submit a transfer request to your financial institution.
  • For assistance with routing, contact a member of our development team.
  • Please notify us of the transfer as soon as possible.
  • Submit by Dec. 30.
  • Gifts of appreciated stock should be initiated as soon as possible, and no later than Dec. 26.
  • Notify a member of our development team about the transfer as soon as possible.
  • Initiate on or before Dec. 26 to ensure receipt by NCCF before Dec. 31. 
Real estate and closely-held stock
  • Initiate as early as possible to ensure due diligence.
  • It must be received by Dec. 31. 

Year-end granting

Many of your favorite charities will be making year-end appeals soon. Follow these deadlines to ensure that your support will be counted:

  • Nonprofit fundholders may request their annual grant by submitting the grant release form.
  • If you need a new copy of the form, email

Designated fund
  • Nonprofit beneficiaries of designated endowments may request their annual grant by submitting the grant release form.
  • If you need a new copy of the form, email

Year-end schedule

NCCF’s regular business hours are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday unless noted below:

  • Dec 24: Office closed
  • Dec. 25: Office closed
  • Dec. 26: Office closed
  • Dec. 31: Office closes at noon
  • Jan. 1: Office closed
